The therapeutic nature of watery landscapes

We intentionally weave time with water into our experiences -  exploring coastal paths, rivers, lakes, and tidal landscapes -  inviting you to interact with blue spaces in your own way, from simply sitting beside them, dipping a toe in, or plunging in for a wild swim!

Inspired by the books of Dr Catherine Kelly in Blue Spaces and Wallace J. Nichols in Blue Mind,  we draw on the calming and restorative power of watery landscapes as a natural prescription to support your wellbeing, and help you get in touch with your own true nature.

You might feel at home here if you’re:

  • in need of a dose of joy and laughter to fill your cup

  • seeking time outdoors that feels meaningful rather than demanding

  • moved by awe-inspiring landscapes, open horizons, and the quiet beauty of wild places

Our Approach

  • Venture out on a walk in nature and it’s not long before your shoulders drop and your mood lifts. A growing body of research points to the beneficial effects that time in the natural world has on health, reducing stress and promoting healing.

At Heartlands and Wild Edges, mother nature provides the backdrop to all of our experiences, offering a rich, sensory environment for us to explore, play and come home to ourselves.

We encourage you to engage with the natural world in whichever way you feel called - walking, sketching, foraging, listening to birds, identifying wildlife, the list goes on!

  • Informed by professional training in heart-based emotional regulation and coherence practices, our offerings are infused with tools you can incorporate into daily life to bring more balance, creativity and intuitive insight whilst supporting healthier relationships and communication, anxiety and stress.

  • Being able to come home to ourselves and create a safe internal space is incredibly important to our wellbeing.

Our bodies are a rich source of information. Many of us live today spending most of our time in our heads, meaning we often miss the messages our bodies send us and aren’t able to respond to its needs.

Informed by training in embodied movement and body-based awareness practices, we work with techniques that support listening to our bodies and recognising that our emotional and mental experiences deeply affect our bodies and, in turn, our bodies affect how we feel and think.

“I have been fortunate to join a wonderful group of women camping in Devon, wild swimming and watching the moon rise over the ocean - bliss!

I especially enjoy the opportunity to join small groups of like minded souls to spend time in immersed in nature; there is a pleasure in venturing to a new destination in the company of others rather than exploring solo and there is always a warm welcome (and a homemade treat) on offer.”

  • We value...

  • Kindness, vulnerability and love are strengths, not weaknesses.

  • Compassion - towards ourselves and others, friendship, and the courage to ask for help to carry us through difficult times.

  • Every now and again, we all need reminding that we are enough and deserving of love - just the way we are.

  • Embracing our imperfections and showing up authentically builds connection and trust - let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and show up as you are.

  • When we’ve lost our way, a friendly companion on our journey home makes all the difference.

  • We cannot give what we do not nurture. We all have unique gifts to share, and the best way to honour our gifts is by using them

Where it all began

It was the summer of 2023, and our founder, Camille, was in a time of transition. She’d just sold her small business, a yoga and creative workshop studio, and found herself craving space to process what had been, and what was yet to come.

She felt a calling to walk.

To walk, and walk far.

A desire to pilgrimage.

She settled on the South West Coast Path. Why? Because she knew the healing power of the sea, and, knowing she was not gifted with the best sense of direction, she figured this path had the least possibility of getting lost. All she had to do on her 630 mile journey from Minehead to Poole was keep the sea to her right.

If you’d asked her at the time, she wouldn’t have considered herself an experienced walker.

The echos of a pressured education meant detailed plans and preparation felt overwhelming, and the doing of them would be sure to stop her in her tracks before she even begun. So she decided she’d figure it out along the way.

As to the backpack, tent, sleeping bag and hiking boots? Her father had come to visit a few years back and taken himself on a trip to Scotland - all his kit was waiting patiently for their next adventure in her hallway cupboard.

So off she set, with shoes a little too big, a backpack that didn’t quite fit and a pair of walking poles from her mom’s nordic walking days.

  • We’re made up of women from all walks of life: creatives, teachers, carers, elders, mothers, students, businesswomen, healthcare workers and everyone in between!

What defines us is our dedication to care for each other and the natural world. To live from the heart - a place of inner resource and kindness, so we can be effective catalysts of change in our homes, communities and the world at large.

Meet our founder Camille, and the team behind Heartlands and Wild Edges.

  • Something Camille remembers most from her pilgrimage along the South West Coast Path were the small acts of kindness from strangers. The gift of a scented dryer sheet so that, if just for a day, her clothes smelt like clean laundry again! The offer of shelter in the form of a sofa bed on a particularly damp and windy night. An aptly placed honesty-style cooler box full of flapjacks and water bottles next to a bench.

These small moments of delight that peppered her path, kept her going on the days her feet ached and her morale dwindled. They were a visceral reminder of the ripple effect of kindness and care.

This kindness, paired with an immersion in the natural world, and spending almost all her time outdoors was incredibly healing.

    We aim:

    • To give people immersive, nature based experiences to support their health and healing.

    • To inspire people to develop a relationship with the land through which they travel, and encourage them to question how they might tread more lightly on the earth.

    • To notice how the feelings evoked by connecting to the natural world can enrich their lives and cultivate a sense of belonging.

    • To share practices which enable people to live from the heart - radiating more care, compassion and kindness. To find the courage to walk their own authentic path and share their gifts. To learn to draw from their wellspring of inner resource.

    • To help people recognise that the health and wellbeing of ourselves, our communities and the natural world are deeply intertwined.

    • To play, rest, be creative and have fun whilst doing all of the above!
