“Why does packing always start with good intentions and end with me sitting on my bag trying to zip it shut?”

If there’s anything you don’t have on your packing list, feel free to reach out and see if I have any spares.

On the first day, we’ll meet together in the car park and I’ll hand you your backpack filled with the items below. We’ll then spend a small amount of time adding your own kit to the packs. It’s also a great time to check we all have everything we need and remove anything we don’t need.

What we’ll provide you with:

You will receive one lightweight trekking backpack containing:

Camping Essentials

  • A two man tent and ground sheet (this tent will be large enough to fit both yourself and your pack in the evening to stop everything from getting damp)

  • Sleeping mat

  • Inflatable Pillow

  • Bowl

  • Mug

  • Cutlery

  • Sit mat

  • Food - you’ll be carrying a few dehydrated food packs for evening meals and some bits for breakfast. For lunch we’ll stop at a cafe / or shop each day. You’ll also have the opportunity to top up on  a few supplies for the evening. Rest assured - we won’t go hungry!

Items we’ll provide for us to share as a group:

  • Group shelter for emergencies

  • Repair tape / tent repair kit

  • Larger first aid kit

  • Jet boil stove and gas canisters

  • Compass

  • Map

  • Water purifying

    • 3-season sleeping bag

    • Sleeping bag liner (optional)

    • Head torch

    • Water bottle (enough to carry 2 litres - you may decide to use two smaller ones)

    • Stuff sacks / dry bags for organising your kit in your large trekking bag (You don’t need to buy special bags, could use packets / bags you already have at home as an affordable option. The point here is to divide and organise your kit so you don’t have to tip everything out all over the place every time you need something.)

    • Walking poles (the coast path is steep in places and rocky, with heavy packs these are essential in my opinion)

    • Microfibre towel (one for sea swimming and one for showers - you could get away with just one / or bring just a very small additional one for drying off after a sea swim).

  • Pack lightweight, quick-dry clothing where possible. Avoid cotton as it takes a really long time to dry. Merino is great (but expensive) so anything synthetic is also a good cost effective alternative.

Layers are essential for coastal walking!

    • Waterproof over trousers - if you’re using a well worn pair, make sure you’ve re-proofed these

    • Waterproof jacket - if you’re using a well worn one, make sure you’ve re-proofed your jacket

    • 2 x walking trousers or walking leggings (pack one and wear one pair)

    • Walking shorts (optional)

    • 4 x comfortable walking tops (wear one and pack three)

    • Warm fleece / light weight insulated jacket

    • Underwear - you decide!

    • Chill / Sleepwear - I’d recommend a pair of thermal leggings and a thermal top as you can always layer these on if you’re chilly in the day too

    • 4 x pairs of walking socks (wear one and pack three)

    • Swimming costume (one is fine - we can tie it to our bags to air dry after a swim)

    • Lightweight scarf or buff (optional)

    • Warm hat and gloves for chilly evenings (optional)

    • Sun hat

    Footwear

    • walking shoes or boots Waterproof, comfortable and well worn in

    • Walking sandals/ flip flops for camp (optional)

    • Small toiletries bag

    • Toothbrush & toothpaste

    • Shower gel / shampoo

    • Lip balm

    • Insect repellent

    • Hair brush

    • Any personal medication

    • Blister plasters

    • Wet wipes

    • Sunscreen

    • Sunglasses

    • Ear plugs (optional but good if you’re a light sleeper)

    • Small notebook or journal (optional)

    • Reading book (optional)

    • Electrolytes (optional)

    • Mobile phone and charger

    • Power bank (optional but recommended - there will also be power points you can charge your phones at the campsites)

    • Kindle (optional)

    • Headphones (optional)

    • Favourite tea / herbal blend / hot chocolate (we’ll share a hot drink together in the morning and evenings)

    • Snacks for during your walk - eg trail mix, energy bars, chocolate - anything you like!
